The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Yobe state Council, on Friday signed an agreement on the implementation of the new national minimum wage of N70, 000, with the Yobe state government.
Officials in attendance when the agreement was signed were the head of civil service, represented by the permanent secretary (public service); permanent secretary (establishment), and the state accountant-general.
Others were the state chairman of the NLC, Comrade Muktar Musa Tarbutu; chairman, Trade Union Congress (TUC), Bulama Musa, and the chairman, Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE),Baba Shehu Mustapha.
The Secretary to Yobe State Government, Alhaji Baba Mallam Wali, who is the chairman of the N70, 000 Minimum Wage Committee, said after several meetings with the Yobe NLC, the Committee made a recommendation to Governor Mai Mala Buni.
He said the Committee’s resolutions among others were that: the “state government has approved the implementation of the N70, 000 Minimum Wage Act 2024 to all grade levels of civil servants, pensioners and all those with special salaries with effect from December 2024, while that of civil servants from the local government areas would be reviewed later.”
Briefing the journalists, Comrade Tarbutu said they had been discussing how to get the N70, 000 minimum wage in the state.
“Actually, local government employees were considered before, but due to some problems with some of the local governments, they have been shifted for review,” he said..
