Unizik Gets New Registrar

AWKA – After appointing two Acting Registrars in the past one year following the completion of term of its last substantive Registrar, the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka on Wednesday appointed Mrs. Rosemary Ifeoma Nwokike, a lawyer as the new substantive Registrar.

Her tenure which will begin on October 23 will run for five years.

Until her appointment Nwokike, a native of Awka was of the Registry Department, University of Nigeria, Nsukka .

According to a statement signed by the Special Adviser to the Vice Chancellor on Information and Public Relations, Dr Emmanuel Ojukwu Nwokike emerged tops ahead of 10 other interviewees after the elaborate interview headed by the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Amb. Greg .O Mbadiwe .

According to the statement “she scored 764 while the second and third scored 500 and 480, respectively.

“A total of 13 persons applied but only 10 turned out for the interview,” the statement added.

The Pro Chancellor who announced the the result of the interview emphasized that it was based purely on merit.

The Acting Vice Chancellor, Prof. Carol Arinze-Umobi who was one of the panelists, on behalf of the Chairman, commended the other participating panelists which included Gen. Funsho Oyeneyin (Rtd), Hon. Hafiz Oladepo, Hon. Chief Augustine Onyedebelu , Professor Kenneth Ngwoke, Prof. Anthony Okoye and Engr Dr Paul Okolie. She also thanked the University Registry Staff for their dedication to duty.

Representatives of the Federal Character Commission, Mr Chinwuba Emeke and Mrs Nwankwo Patricia commended the interview process as transparent and worthy of emulation as the result of the interview was released immediately.

In a short ceremony, the Pro-Chancellor presented a formal letter of appointment to Mrs Nwokike as the Substantive Registrar of the university.

According to the letter, the tenure was for a non –renewable 5 – year term effective 23rd October 2024. The letter further stipulated that the new Registrar should be responsible to the Vice Chancellor for the day to day running of the University.

Mrs Nwokike emerges the first Awka indigene to hold such a position since the inception of the institution.

She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from University of Nigeria Nsukka, Masters in Maritime Law and Policy with a PhD in view.

Her professional career in university administration spans numerous key roles as an Assistant Faculty Officer in the Faculty of Law at UNN, and later advancing to critical positions in the Records and Statistics Unit and the Faculty of Business Administration.

She served as Coordinator of the Centre for Entrepreneurship and Development Research at University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus, (UNEC) where she fostered innovative academic-industry partnerships and promoted entrepreneurship education.

In 2022, she took on the role of Unit Head in the Personnel Services Unit at UNEC, further showcasing her administrative leadership by managing human resources and implementing policies that enhanced institutional efficiency. Her leadership has been widely recognized, further bolstered by her involvement in professional organizations such as the Association of Nigerian University Professional Administrators (ANUPA).
