ABUJA – The Joint Meeting of ECOWAS Ministers of Energy and Hydrocarbons extended to Morocco and Mauritania commenced at the Headquarters of the ECOWAS Commission in Abuja, on November 1st, 2024.
Issues slated for deliberation and adoption by the Ministers at the one-day event include the report of the Experts Meeting on Draft Intergovernmental Agreement (IGA) concerning the African Atlantic Gas Pipeline (AAGP); Draft Host Government Agreement (HGA) concerning the African Atlantic Gas Pipeline annexed to the IGA; Draft Framework Document for the establishment of the ECOWAS Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Facility(EREEEF) ; Draft Regional Directive on Solar Photovoltaic Technologies and its annexes; Organisation of the ECOWAS Sustainable Energy Forum (ESEF 2024), and the finalisation, presentation and adoption of the report of the ministers meeting.
Declaring the meeting open, the Chairman of the Joint Meeting and Nigeria’s Minister of Petroleum Resources (Gas) Rt. Hon. Ekperikpe Ekpo, thanked the ECOWAS Commission; Nigeria’s Minister of Power, Hon. Adebayo Adelabu; ECOWAS Ministers of Energy and Hydrocarbons and the governments of Morocco and Mauritania for their efforts and commitment in convening the meeting.
In his opening speech on behalf of the President of the ECOWAS Commission, H.E. Dr. Omar Alieu TOURAY, the ECOWAS Commissioner for Infrastructure, Energy and Digitisation, Mr. Sediko DOUKA, expressed the Commission’s sincere gratitude to Nigeria’s President, Ahmed Bola Tinubu, and current Chair of the ECOWAS Conference of Heads of State and Government, as well as to the people and Government of Nigeria, for graciously hosting the meeting.
He also appreciated the warm welcome and exceptional arrangements made for all participants.
