CAF Competitions: Enyimba Cruise, Rangers Crash

2 hours ago 24

Enyimba, yesterday, emerged as the only surviving Nigerian club on the continent after edging out Etoile Filante of Burkina Faso 3-2 on penalties in the last round of the preliminary of the CAF Confederation Cup.

This was shortly after Nigerian champions Rangers were eliminated from the CAF Champions League by Angola’s Sagrada Esperanca.

Enyimba held their Burkina Faso opponent to a goalless draw in the first leg played in Abidjan last week but Etoile Filante returned the favour in Uyo, as both sides ended the tie 0-0 over the two legs which forced straight into penalties.

Enyimba converted three out of their first best five shots while Etoile Filante could only convert two and lost 3-2 on aggregate to send the home team’s fans into wild jubilation.

The People’s Elephants will now play in the group stage of the competition. Rangers lost 3-1 to the Angolans to exit the Champions League 3-2 on the aggregate. The first leg had ended 1-0 in favour of the Nigerian side.
