Abiodun Restates Commitment To Sustainable Industrial Waste Management

Prince Dapo Abiodun, Ogun state Governor has restated his administration’s commitment to sustainable industrial waste management.

He gave the assurance on Fri­day while speaking at the closing of a two-day workshop organised by the Ogun State Waste Manage­ment Authority (OGWAMA), for Health, Safety and Environmen­tal Personnel of Industries in the state on Industrial Waste Manage­ment with the theme; ‘Enhancing Industrial Waste Management for a Future, Regulatory Compliance, Public Health and Global Practic­es’ in Abeokuta.

Abiodun, who was repre­sented by Engr Noimot Salako, his Deputy, said that with Ogun State’s position as Nigeria’s in­dustrial hub, there is the need for regulatory compliance to global best practices to protect the envi­ronment.

He urged industries operating in the state to adopt innovative waste management practices, enhance their efficiency, increase their compliance with national and global best standards as well as foster a stronger connection to the communities in which they operate.

While assuring them of the government’s continuous provi­sion of enabling the environment to make their businesses thrive while operating within national and global standards, he pointed out that the state government will not compromise the health of its residents and the integrity of the ecosystem.

Ola Oresanya, the Commis­sioner for Environment, said that in line with Sustainable Develop­ment Goal 9, the state government will ensure a healthy and safer environment for residents of the state and urged the participants to take advantage of the workshop to get themselves acquainted with the latest in global waste manage­ment practices.

Hon. Abayomi Hunye, the Spe­cial Adviser and Managing Direc­tor of OGWAMA, the workshop was an opportunity for partici­pants to engage, collaborate and share ideas and rethink their approach to sustainable waste management.

Participants at the workshop appreciated the state government and OGWAMA for the training which they said will impact pos­itively on industrial waste man­agement in the state.
