Abuja is buzzing with anticipation as six men’s and two women’s teams gear up to compete in the volleyball tournament at the 2024 African Military Games (AMGA), which kicks off on November 25.
The fixtures for the highly anticipated event were unveiled during a technical meeting held at the Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF) boardroom on Saturday.
The opening matches promise electrifying action, with Sierra Leone taking on Burkina Faso at 12 pm, Ghana clashing with Kenya at 2 pm, and host nation Nigeria facing Algeria at 4 pm.
Speaking ahead of the tournament, the President of the NVBF, Engineer Musa Nimrod, underscored the significance of the African Military Games as a platform for fostering unity and collaboration among African nations.
“This is more than just a tournament,” Nimrod remarked. “It is a celebration of African strength, discipline, and teamwork.”
He also commended Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, for spearheading the renovation of the indoor sports hall, which will host the volleyball matches.
“When I walked into the hall, I was amazed by the transformation.
The renovations have enhanced its beauty and functionality. I want to thank the Chief of Defence Staff for prioritising sports development in Nigeria,” he said.
Similarly, Commodore Aliyu Pindar (RTD), Chairman of the FCT Volleyball Association, expressed optimism about the performance of Nigeria’s Armed Forces volleyball team.
“Our players are ready to make the nation proud,” Pindar said. “They are hungry for success, and this tournament is the perfect stage to showcase their skills.”
As the countdown begins, all eyes are on Abuja for what promises to be a spectacular display of volleyball excellence and a celebration of African unity and pride.
The African Military Games are poised to deliver not only thrilling sports action but also a reaffirmation of the shared strength and resilience that define the continent.
