Minister of Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), Barr Nyesom Wike Thursday distributed 80 vehicles to youths to cushion the effect of transportation in the nation’s capital.
The minister disclosed this at the flag off of the pilot programme of the vehicles distribution at the FCDA premises in Area II, Abuja.
He also revealed that President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda was the first to think of women and youth inclusiveness, by creating the youth as well as the women affairs secretariats to empower them.
Wike further explained that the vehicles were brand new and that they were given free as the government was not demanding any pay back for the vehicles. “These vehicles are brand new, tear leather vehicles. They (beneficiaries) are not paying a kobo. This is the government’s support for the youths to reduce the cost of transportation in the city. We will fix the price because we bought the vehicles,” he said.
The minister also used the medium to inform residents of Abuja that when fully operational, Abuja would look like other modern cities of the world, adding that those areas where the vehicles would operate, bikes and Keke Napep would be phased out. Districts for the pilot scheme are Guzape, Maitama and Asokoro, he added.
Wike challenged the beneficiaries to operate without being ashamed. Four ladies and three men were beneficiaries of the free vehicles.
Chairman House Committee on FCT, Mukhtar Betara praised Wike for the legacy projects, saying: “After four years, Wike’s legacy will surpass all others. A legacy that no other minister will beat. As a National Assembly, we are with you because you stand for development.”
