The Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun has said that traditional rulers are very vital to fostering peace and unity as well as accelerating the socio-economic development of the country.
Abiodun also urged the traditional rulers in the state to use their vantage position to support every effort of the government tailored towards making life a lot better for the residents of the state.
The governor stated this on Thursday during the Statutory meeting of the State Council of Oba, held at the Obas’ Complex, Governor’s Office, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
Abiodun represented by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Ganiyu Hamzat, said that “The Council of Oba have been better positioned to engender, unity, peace and harmony across the traditional institution in the State, as well as the development of its cultural heritage across the country.”
The governor said “As our highly revered traditional rulers, you are to please leverage on the council meeting to interact and cross-fertilise ideas necessary for the creation of prosperity of the people.
“You are to come up with practicable and more improved recommendations necessary for the discharge of good governance in the best interest of every resident of the state.”
In his remarks, the Chairman of the Council, the Olu and Paramount Ruler of Yewaland, Oba. Kehinde Olugbenle appreciated Governor Abiodun for his unflinching efforts in addressing the welfare of the traditional council and also fulfilling the promise on the deliverables of the first tranche of utility vehicles.
Olugbenle requested the fulfilment of the remaining batch of vehicles while appealing for the ratification of the newly processed list of Obas for a status upgrade.
Highlights of the meeting were the presentation of the ‘Digiculture’ project by the Associate Professor of International Peace and Security, Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta, Dr. Temitope Olaifa to the royal fathers
Olaifa sensitised the traditional rulers on the importance of ‘Digiculture’ in the State.
She emphasized that there was a need to prevent the cultural heritage of each part of the state from going into extinction.
Olaifa revealed that the team was set to develop an application that would help interpret and explore culture and solicited the support and cooperation of traditional rulers who are the custodians of cultural heritage in the state to make available the cultures in their various domains.
Speaking at the event, the new Commandant of Ogun State Security Network Agency, Amotekun Corps, Brigader-General, Alade Adedigba (rtd) lauded the traditional rulers for their efforts at ensuring peace in their domain.
Alade solicited the royal fathers’ cooperation to have a grassroots-driven security, saying that Governor Abiodun’s drive for security in the state was to ensure all citizens are safe and secure.
