KANO – The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, on Thursday reassured Nigerians that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration has no intention of discriminating against any region, amidst recent power outages in northern Nigeria.
Adelabu who spoke in Kano during a stakeholders meeting described the outages as “unfortunate” and “not deliberate,” emphasizing the need for a permanent solution to prevent future occurrences.
No fewer than seven states in the northern Nigeria lost connection to the national grid for 12 days with attendants losses, and just yesterday, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) announced the restoration of bulk power supply to seven northern states after repairing the 330KV Ugwuaji-Apir Transmission Line
The Minister explained that “The situation is worrisome and unfortunate. The President does not intend to discriminate against any region. We all voted for him as Nigerians, and he has all of us at heart.”
He also highlighted the federal government’s determination to boost electricity supply to revive the nation’s industries and enhance its economy.
Adelabu therefore proposed exploring alternative power sources to serve as a backup to the National Grid, as he recognized the crucial roles played by various stakeholders in achieving this objective.
He also stressed the need to revamp the transmission architecture in the North, which currently relies heavily on the Shiroro and Jos channels.
Adelabu stressed that “This radial system leaves the Northern region vulnerable to electricity disruptions whenever issues arise with these lines”.
