The Vice Chancellor of Chrisland University, Abeokuta, Ogun State, Professor Oyedunni Arulogun, has charged Nigerians to tap into the digital revolution to further promote entrepreneurship in the country.
Professor Arulogun made this statement while delivering her keynote address entitled ‘Entrepreneurship in a Rapidly Changing Digital World’ during a webinar organised by the Ibadan Digital Academy to mark this year’s World Entrepreneurship Day.
The professor emphasised that the impact of the digital revolution cannot be overemphasised, noting that it has broken barriers in global business operations.
“The digital revolution has destroyed the usual way of doing things; today, one can be in Nigeria and connect with business people in China and other parts of the world,” Professor Arulogun said.
She continued, “It has also helped in breaking the barriers to starting a business, as people no longer need to have a physical office or shop to launch their businesses.”
“This is, therefore, a great opportunity for everyone to tap into the opportunities provided by the digital revolution and thrive in their spaces,” she added.
However, she also acknowledged the challenges associated with the digital space, particularly in areas such as cybersecurity and fraud. She pointed out that solution providers could turn these challenges into opportunities.
Also speaking during the webinar, a data science expert in Manitoba, Canada, Dr Anifat Olawoyin, addressed the topic ‘Introduction to Generative AI: Exploring the Fundamentals and Real-World Applications.’ She explained that Generative AI is enhancing productivity for individuals and businesses alike.
She said that although the term “AI” is only now becoming widely recognised, “it has been with us for decades.”
“In the past, AI was used to think for humans, but today, it is now generating content, automating tasks, and much more,” she explained.
“And the good thing about this is that it is making people more productive, while businesses can accomplish more in a shorter period of time than they would be able to without Generative AI.”
Mr. Jeremiah Balogun, an AI/ML expert from Mountain Top University, Ogun State, then taught participants how to incorporate AI into their day-to-day activities.
The webinar was moderated by Funmilayo Adetitun, who mentioned that the Ibadan Digital Academy plans to hold such webinars monthly for the benefit of all.
