Professor Steven Odaibo, an elder statesman and retired surgeon, has criticised Nigerian leaders for the country’s current economic challenges.
Reflecting on his birthday, which coincided with Nigeria’s independence, Odaibo noted the persistent energy crisis as a sign of leadership failure.
“Born on October 1, I feel compelled to reflect on my birthday alongside my country,” he stated.
“The energy situation highlights the inability and unwillingness of leaders to pursue excellence.”
Having spent nearly a decade as a medical consultant in Saudi Arabia, Odaibo lamented the lack of initiatives to recruit top talents.
“In the past, brilliant students received scholarships, but that no longer exists.
“Philanthropists are now the only ones supporting education. The systems that provided essential services like electricity and water have deteriorated, and leaders have shown little concern for energy, which is vital for life.”
He emphasised, “Without energy, there is no life. The energy needed to drive this country is lacking.
