Nigeria Unemployment Soars, Rises To 5.4% In 2023, Surges To 5.3% In Q1 2024

The Nigeria unemployment rate increased consistently in 2023 and in the first quarter of 2024, latest labour force survey results of the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) showed.

In 2023 NBS put the unemployment rate at the national level at 5.4% . It surged to 5.3% in Q1 2024 from 5.0% in Q3 2023.

At the state level in 2024 , Abia recorded the highest unemployment rate at 18.7%, while Nasarawa had the lowest at 0.5.

NBS’ unemployment report is coming amid social economic challenges facing the country with unemployment rate especially among the active age bracket taking center stage.
