Ambassador Daniel Chukwuka Koussou, who was recently been appointed Chairman of the Nigeria chapter of the International Human Rights Observatory – Africa (IHRO-Africa), a role that shows his long-standing efforts to promote trade and economic development across Africa.
The induction ceremony took place on October 4 2024 in Lagos, where Ambassador Koussou received his certificate of appointment from Ambassador Dr. Chimbo Obieze Fihsd, the Special Envoy and Country Director of BIGWIL IHRO-Africa.
In his acceptance speech, Ambassador Koussou expressed his readiness to use this position to improve Nigeria’s global image and protect vulnerable communities.
“I am humbled to receive this certificate,” he said. “Our goal is to project a positive image of Nigeria and show the world the opportunities within our country.”
In a recent interview with Daily Independent, Koussou shed light on his new responsibilities and future plans. He explained that his recent appointment as Chairman of the Committee on Economy, Diplomacy, Trade, and Investment under BIGWIL-IHRO Africa was a reflection of his dedication to promoting sustainable economic growth.
According to him, “My vision is to foster sustainable economic growth, improve trade relations, and promote diplomatic engagements that will place Nigeria on a more competitive and globally respected platform.”
When asked how he intends to achieve this vision, Ambassador Koussou outlined his strategy: “I will focus on active collaborations with government bodies, the private sector, and international stakeholders. By organizing trade fairs, hosting diplomatic dialogues, and encouraging foreign direct investments, I aim to strengthen investment opportunities for Nigeria.”
Koussou emphasised the importance of staying current on global trends and developments. He said he plans to rely on data-driven insights, consultations with industry experts, and active participation in global economic forums. “Continuous learning is key to adapting to changing dynamics in the global economy. Nigeria must not be left behind,” he said.
Ambassador Koussou also credited his background in diplomacy, trade, and the hospitality industry as significant factors contributing to his appointment. He noted that his experience in facilitating cross-border collaborations and negotiating economic agreements has prepared him to take on this new role. “This appointment gives me the platform to contribute further to Nigeria’s economic stability while using diplomacy as a tool for trade expansion and international relations.”
Regarding the challenges ahead, Koussou acknowledged the potential obstacles but expressed confidence in his proactive approach. “Global issues like fluctuating market conditions and political uncertainties are inevitable, but with a strong plan and a team of experts, we can navigate these challenges effectively. Open communication with stakeholders will also be key.”
In terms of Nigeria’s benefits from his appointment, he stressed that the country stands to gain significantly. “Attracting investments and promoting Nigerian products globally will create jobs, improve infrastructure, and drive economic growth. Our partnerships with international investors will help diversify and strengthen Nigeria’s economy.”
Koussou called on both the government and corporate organisations to collaborate with him in his efforts. “Working together is key to achieving sustainable development. The government should create enabling policies for investment, while corporate bodies should explore joint ventures that can drive economic growth. With strong partnerships, we can position Nigeria as a global leader in trade and diplomacy,” he stated.
