KATSINA – Governor Dikko Umaru Radda of Katsina state has on Monday presented a budget estimate of over N682 billion to the House of Assembly for the 2025 fiscal year.
The budget tagged “Building Your Future ll” has a capital expenditure of N524,274,694,499:51, representing 76.85 percent and a recurrent expenditure of N157,967,755,024:36, representing 23.55 percent.
He said, “The total size of the Budget is the sum of N682,244,449,513.87 each for Recurrent Revenue and Expenditure. The total of this budget when compared with that of 2024 has an increase of N200,535,619,501.61, representing 40 percent increase”.
Radda, while giving the sectoral allocation, said education being the topmost priority of his administration, has over N99,995 billion, 14 percent; agriculture N81.840 billion, 12 percent; works, housing and transport got over N6.9b, 10 percent.
On the challenges facing the country, he said Global and local factors ultimately affect the people and the ability to implement projects and programs effectively. “We are pleased that, despite the numerous challenges we were able to record considerable gains in all our priority areas”.
“Wars between Russia and Ukraine led to increase in staple crop prices and Nigeria being a wheat importer was affected. Crisis in Yemen increased shipping costs significantly hence increasing landing costs and market prices in the country. Imported inflation was witnessed across key necessities while other pressures have had ripple effects on our people”, he maintained.
“We shall remain prudent in our activities and sincere in the discharge of our duties. I task every public servant to uphold our commitment for service delivery as we embark on yet another year in office, Insha Allah. Alhamdullilah we have fulfilled our constitutional responsibility to prepare and submit a budget for the benefit of our people”.
“The baton is now with this Honorable House, and we look forward to the collaborative engagements that you shall embark upon to fine tune our budget proposal to align with the aspirations of this house and its constituents”, he concluded.
Rt Hon Nasiru Yahaya Daura, the Speaker of house, in his response, assured the citizens that the House will carefully analyse the Draft Budget, conduct effective oversight and monitor the implementation of the developmental projects outlined in the 2025 Draft Budget once it is approved.
“We are committed to working together with the Executive Arm to ensure the timely passage and effective implementation of the Budget”, he said.
