Kano LG Poll: CSOs Happy With Electoral Process, Say Voters’ Turnout In Impressive

KANO – Accredited election observers in just concluded local government elections in Kano have commended the state’s electoral body for conducting a credible and well-organized exercise.

In a press briefing during the weekend, the group, consisting of 89 organizations and led by Comrade Victor Kalu, Director of the Grassroot Development and Peace Initiative, expressed satisfaction with the peaceful and orderly conduct of the elections.

Kalu noted that despite the absence of conventional security agents, the election was a huge success, devoid of violence.

He emphasized the importance of the local government elections, noting that they are the closest to the public.

He pointed out that the recent Supreme Court ruling on financial autonomy for local governments made it essential for the state to conduct these elections to avoid losing its allocation.

The CSOs also lauded Governor Abba Yusuf for his commitment to promoting good governance at the grassroots level.

In a related development, the CSOs officially submitted their election report to the Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC).

Prof. Sani Lawal Malumfashi, Chairman of KANSIEC, received the report and commended the CSOs for their contributions to the electoral process.

He highlighted the critical role they played in safeguarding the integrity of the elections and encouraged them to continue their efforts in promoting democracy across Nigeria.

Malumfashi acknowledged that the presence of the CSOs helped to prevent attempts to undermine the constitutional mandate, thereby ensuring the success of the elections.
