KANO – The Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union (COEASU), Federal University of Education, Kano (FUE) on Sunday reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, accountability, and collaboration with the university management to ensure a smooth transition process.
Ado Muhammad Abdullahi, Chairman of COEASU, told Reporters in Kano that the transition process is progressing smoothly, with a governing council in place working closely with the university management.
Muhammad Abdullahi revealed that Five committees have been established to oversee various aspects of the transition, including student affairs, academic and non-academic staff issues, infrastructure development, and more.
The federal government has upgraded the provost to the position of acting vice chancellor, and other principal officers have been asked to maintain their positions in an acting capacity.
The local Chairman of COEASU, explained that
“The institution’s schools have been converted to faculties, and arrangements have been made for a resource visitation from the National Universities Commission to facilitate the accreditation of courses in various departments.”
Muhammad also addressed some misconceptions surrounding the upgrade, describing them as false.
He clarified that the Federal College of Education, Kano was not the only institution upgraded in 2015, but was rather one of four colleges to receive this designation.
Muhammad emphasized that the university is committed to transparency, accountability, and excellence to ensure a smooth transition and provide quality education to its students.
He disclosed that the university aims to conclude resource visitation of courses, determine the number of degree programs it is qualified to run, and obtain a license from the National Universities Commission.
He noted that the university is also working to address the issue of staff unions in the university, which are currently in transition, pointing out that the staff unions cannot simply transition to university unions without completing the necessary processes, including the transition of staff to the university payroll.
He stressed that the university’s commitment to transparency and accountability was also evident in its decision to admit NCE students who had applied for admission before the university status was conferred.
Muhammad therefore assured the public that the university is committed to providing quality education to its students, maintaining that the university would prioritize the accreditation of its courses, the development of its infrastructure, and the welfare of its staff and students.
