JUST IN: 58-year-old Algerian ‘Arms Dealer’ Arrested In Zamfara

A 58-year-old Algerian national has been arrested by the Police in Zamfara state over allegation of transborder arms trafficking.

Mohammed Dalijan, the Zamfara state commissioner of police in a statement on Wednesday, November 20, said 16 AK-47 ruffles were recovered from the man.

He said that the police team during various raids in the past three weeks also recovered one double barrel and a locally made Pistol from a suspected arms manufacturer based in Jos, Plateau state capital city.

According to him, the police command acted on intelligence, traced and arrested by arms manufacturer.

Mr Dalijan said the police also arrested the regional arms dealer from Algeria.

He said arms trafficker was arrested at Illela border point.

The police state, “The suspected Algerian, told the police he has been committing this crime for eight years.

”The suspect supplies arms and ammunition to bandits in all parts of north west states. At the point of the arrest, four AK47 were recovered from him,” he said.

He added while some suspects have been detained, other suppliers of motorcycles were also arrested by the Police.

“The police recovered live ammunition and N2.5 million cash, among others from the suspects,” he said.
