LAGOS – A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and convener Reset Lagos PDP, Dr. Adetokunbo Pearse has urged Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) to join other Nigerians in 2027 to reject 12 years of the All Progressives Congress (APC) abysmal administration.
The member PDP National Presidential Campaign Council, 2023, noted that notwithstanding, the argument of the ACF that Tinubu, a Yoruba has failed them, and should be replaced with a northerner, is not convincing.
He said, “After all, Tinubu has disappointed and embarrassed his own Yoruba kinsmen as Buhari let his Arewa people down. Leadership choice must transcend ethnicity
“Compared to the eight years of Buhari , and the four years of Tinubu, the 16 years of PDP now look like a season in paradise.
“For the sake of this country’s salvation, the PDP must put forward a dynamic presidential candidate with a proven record of state development, a young and energetic, detribalized Nigerian; one who will restructure Nigeria for the benefit of all its constituent parts.”
According to Pearse, while the deplorable economic situation and the aggravated conditions of insecurity in northern Nigeria are not of Tinubu’s creation, the ACF is right in its observation that Tinubu’s administration has made the bad situation up north much worse. Sadly, this unhappy observation is appropriate for the whole country.
“Consider these statistics: if the number of almajiri and out of school children was 1 million when Tinubu took office, that number is now more like 1.4 million. There has always been widespread poverty and food shortages in the North, but that bad condition is now a disastrous famine.
“Since about 2014, security to life and property have been compromised all across the north; Boko Haram terrorists have been active in the North East, Bandits in the North West and Herder – farmer classes in the North Central Geopolitical Zone.
“Unfortunately the security situation up north has become even worse. The destructive activities of Boko Haram has become common place to the extent that Boko Haram is no longer news. Some communities in Zamfara and Sokoto now pay tribute to bandits instead of taxes to the government.
“True, President Tinubu didn’t create the current suffering and pain in the North, but his lack of interest in the North has been quite disturbing. This neglect of the North is evident mostly in key federal appointments.
“Virtually all important appointments have gone to people from Tinubu’s ethnic Yoruba. The Arewa have been conspicuously excluded.”
