Jigawa state Attorney General and Commission for Justice, Mr Bello Fanini has said the state government had backed out from a lawsuit challenging the legality of the two federal government’s anti-corruption agencies, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC).
The state’s Attorney General disclosed this while briefing newsmen on the ministry’s success in the third quarter of the year said Jigawa state has withdrawn from the case between some states and the federal government at the supreme court.
According to the Attorney General “The case of AG Kogi and AG of the federation SC/CV/178/2023. Let me at this juncture announce that the Jigawa state government has withdrawn from this case pending at the Supreme Court of Nigeria. A notice of withdrawal was since been signed by my humble self and sent to the chief registrar of the supreme court”.
The commissioner of Justice disclosed further that presently there is no single person in detention among the 403 persons arrest in connection with the August protest and destructions of people and government properties in the state.
Mr Bello Fanini maintained that “the department of the public prosecution in this ministry had successfully prosecuted 403 persons arrest in connection with 1st August riot in Jigawa state as at September there was no single person in detention”.
“The department successful filled the processes and prosecution (as the case may be) of 6 and 4 appeal cases at Court of Appeals and Supreme Court respectively. This is in addition to the handling of dozens of cases to a near completion stages at 12 high courts of the state”.
He emphasised that the Department of Civil Litigation successfully handled two case of the state independent Electoral Commission period to just concluded Local councils elections held on 5th of October.
Fanini stated further the citizens’ rights department of the ministry had received and handled a total of 63 complaints mostly resolved through mediation, “the few which is negligence had been referred to an appropriate place to handle”.
