The Delta State Police Command has extended condolences to the family of Miss Precious Yusuf, a 23-year-old woman whose corpse was found along DLA Road, opposite Falcon Club in Asaba.
The development has plunged the state capital into a sombre mood and shaken ahead of unravelling the cause of her death.
Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Bright Edafe, in a statement on Saturday, said on October 24, 2024, at approximately 8:40 a.m., the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of ‘A’ Division, Asaba, CSP Rex Abiodun, responded to a distress call reporting the presence of a young lady’s body.
Leading a team to the location, the DPO confirmed the discovery of Precious Yusuf’s body.
He said preliminary investigations revealed that Precious had informed a friend on October 22 that she planned to meet a male friend she had connected with on the iHappy dating website.
She then left her home to meet the yet-to-be-identified man in the Coka area, but the following day, October 23, at around 7:30 a.m., she called her friend to say she was on her way home.
Tragically, this was her last known contact before her body was discovered the following day.
Edafe said the police have transferred the corpse to the mortuary, where an autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death.
Meanwhile, SP Edafe quoted the Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, as expressing his condolences to the deceased’s family and assured the public that a full investigation is underway.
He also issued a warning, particularly to young women, to exercise caution when meeting new people, especially through dating sites and social media platforms.
This tragic event has underscored the importance of vigilance in online interactions as police work to bring justice to Precious Yusuf.
