ABUJA – Mrs Anjor Obande, Founder of the JorJor Mother and Child Foundation, has called on Nigerians to extend support to vulnerable citizens struggling to access basic necessities, including food.
Mrs. Obande made this plea during a community outreach organized by the foundation on Saturday in Mpape, a suburb of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Speaking at the event, she emphasized the growing need for humanitarian assistance, particularly for individuals and families facing severe economic hardships.
JorJor Mother and Child Foundation, a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), is dedicated to improving lives and building healthier communities by supporting the most vulnerable families. The foundation’s mission centers on providing mothers and children with essential necessities, giving them a chance at a better future.
In a statement, the foundation stressed the increasing struggles faced by families due to the prevailing economic challenges. Many individuals are finding it increasingly difficult to afford basic needs, including food and other essentials for their families.
Recognizing these hardships, JorJor Mother and Child Foundation continues to stand as a beacon of hope for struggling families, reinforcing its commitment to sustaining life and fostering community well-being.
“The current economic hardship is taking a toll on many families, leaving countless parents unable to provide even a single meal for their children. This is why we are here today, to bring relief and support to as many families as we can. That’s the essence of this programme.
Our goal is to reach as many communities as possible. We chose to start with Mpape, and from here, we plan to extend our outreach to other states across Nigeria. This is our commitment to doing our part in alleviating the burden on families during these trying times.”
“Today, we extended support to over 100 families by distributing essential items. Each family received a bag of rice, cartons of noodles and spaghetti, as well as packs of seasoning cubes, tomato paste, and cash assistance. Passersby were not left out, as we ensured they also benefited from the outreach.
A bag of rice can sustain a family of four, five, or even six for a while, providing some reassurance that they will have food at home. This initiative reflects our commitment to making a meaningful difference in the lives of those in need.”
One of the beneficiaries of the initiative, Mrs. Franca Odu, a mother of two, expressed her gratitude and joy at receiving support from the foundation.
“I am so happy to benefit from this kind gesture,” she said. “This is the first time I am receiving this kind of assistance. I have lived here for 17 years, paying revenue and other dues, yet I have not encountered individuals like this who offer help without regard to religion or tribe.”
She continued, “The benefactor came, saw women, widows, ageing mothers, and the less privileged, and chose to help us out of her good heart. She brought bags of rice, packs of spaghetti and noodles, seasonings, tomatoes, and even sanitary pads. It was such a thoughtful and life-changing intervention.”
Mrs. Odu also used the opportunity to appeal to other well-meaning Nigerians to emulate the foundation’s gesture.
“I want to seize this opportunity to beg well-meaning Nigerians to please emulate this foundation. People are really suffering because there is hunger in the land,” she concluded.
“She planned for a specific number of people, but the turnout was far beyond her expectations. Without hesitation, she went to her car, retrieved a bundle of cash, and distributed it among those who couldn’t receive the items, ensuring no one left empty-handed,” an observer recounted.
Moved by her generosity, one of the beneficiaries offered heartfelt prayers: “May God continue to bless her abundantly. Wherever she gets the resources to provide all these items and reach out to us, may God replenish her pockets. I pray for more promotion and favor in her life, in Jesus’ name.”
