Dominik Szoboszlai admits he hopes to play with Mohamed Salah for “as long as I can” after he inspired Liverpool to victory against Southampton on Sunday.
The Reds opened up an eight-point lead at the Premier League summit courtesy of their 3-2 win on the south coast. But things looked bleak before Salah bagged a second half brace.
Salah’s performance will only fuel calls for Fenway Sports Group to do whatever it takes to get the Egypt international to sign a new deal.
But he hit out at FSG post-match after revealing that he has not received ANY offers from the club. For Szoboszlai, the situation is simple: he wants to play with Salah beyond the end of the current campaign.
Speaking to Sky Sports post-match, the Hungary midfielder said of Salah’s impact: “Everybody knows Mo, he just needs to keep going. Hopefully I can play with him as long as I can!”
Liverpool fans have made their feelings crystal clear in recent weeks with a new banner, which reads: “He Fires A Bow. Now Give Mo His Dough,” referencing Salah’s new bow and arrow goal celebration.
Salah will be free to speak with overseas clubs in January if no agreement is reached in the coming weeks. And that has left fans nervous given ambitious Saudi Pro League clubs have been linked with Liverpool’s star man for the last 18 months.
Salah himself revealed after Sunday’s win over the Saints that he has NOT been offered a new deal by FSG, much to his disappointment. He also added that he was “probably more out than in” at this point.
“We are almost in December and I haven’t received any offers yet to stay in the club. I’m probably more out than in,” he said.
“You know I have been in the club for many years. There is no club like this. But in the end it is not in my hands. As I said before, it is December and I haven’t received anything yet about my future.
“I love the fans. The fans love me. In the end it is not in my hands or the fans’ hands. Let’s wait and see.”
When he was then asked if he was disappointed, Salah continued: “Of course, yeah. I’m not going to retire soon so I’m just playing, focusing on the season and I’m trying to win the Premier League and hopefully the Champions League as well. I’m disappointed but we will see.”
