The Osogbo Muslim community Wednesday warned the Chief Imam of Osogboland, Sheik Musa Animasahun, to stop conferring religious titles on politicians to avoid religious crises among Muslims.

The head of Alasaro Osogbo, Sheik Sulaiman Akala, who led the community at a press conference in Osogbo, described the installation of Alhaji Muniru Raji as the Asiwaju Musulumi of Osogboland by the Chief Imam of Osogbo as shocking and disappointing.

Akala said: “This unilateral decision of the Chief Imam is not only disappointing to the whole Muslim community but also much unwholesome, it is best considered as an attempt to create avoidable religious crises in an otherwise peaceful Osogbo Muslim community.

“In appointing leaders in Islam, knowledge, impact, character, manner and pedigree of people is among the very important factors to be considered.”

The Muslim community added that Islam prescribed certain principles for the conversion of religious titles on people among which was followed in the selection Imam himself.
