A total number of 230 contractors have bid to produce and supply the National Youth Service Scheme (NYSC) kit items for the 2025 batches A, B and C corps members, NYSC Director General, Brigadier-General Y.D Ahmed has said.
Performing the technical bid opening in the Yakubu Gowon House, headquarters of the NYSC in Abuja, he told the contractors that the bid exercise would be transparent and fair to all contenders in line with the enabling act.
He also assured that after the technical bid, the Technical Evaluation Committee would diligently scrutinise and select the successful bidders for the next stage of the exercise which is the financial bid where the final successful contractors would emerge.
General Ahmed said before the technical bid opening, the contracts were advertised in three print media organisations on October 27th, 2024 and lasted for four weeks for prospective contractors to indicate interest in line with the provision on the Public Procurement Act, 2007.
He said: “This effort is geared towards ensuring transparency, fairness, reliability and accountability in line with the enabling act.
“Let me emphasise here that NYSC is committed to ensuring fairness, efficiency, high standard and value for money in the procurement of goods and services for the overall development of the scheme in particular and the nation at large.”
He called on the would-be contractors to be diligent in carrying out the jobs to meet the quality and standard of the scheme and the general public.
The NYSC DG was represented by the Director of Procurement, Chris Gimba, who after his remark handed over the keys of the bid boxes to the secretary, NYSC Tenders Board, Alhaji Umar Yahaya, who conducted the bidding process.
Umar, who confirmed that 230 contractors were bidding in the technical bid, assured all contractors of fairness and said the bids were packed in six sealed boxes.
He told the contractors to feel free to check that their bid envelopes were not tempered with as well as make observations when necessary.
After the bid exercise, the observing civil society organisations and NGOs applauded the Scheme for its transparency.
