…Donates N100Million For Women Empowerment
Ezinano Community in Awka,Awka South local government area of Anambra State has condemned as despicable the gruesome murder of 15 persons in Nibo Community near Awka on Sunday, October 20, and five others at Ifite-Awka two days later by yet to be identified gunmen.
Gunmen suspected to be cultists had during the activities marking the new yam festival in Nibo Community penultimate Sunday gone to a bar where some young men were gathered over some drinks ,brought out their guns, opened fire and killing 15 and injuring many others, two of who died the following day.
On Tuesday being October 22, another group of gun men stormed the Nnamdi Azikiwe University gate area in Ifite Awka and killed five people majority of who were Okada operators this highlighting the seriousness of the insecurity that has become the in thing in the state.
But while commemorating the Ezinano day last Friday, a day set aside by 20 out of the 33 villages in Awka to celebrate their victory over Nawgu Community in a war to avenge the killing of their daughter from the Eyiuche family in her farmland 200 years ago,the leader of Ezinano Community, Chief Jeff Ezechukwu Nweke said the killings were evil.
He said that the Ezinano Community has been hospitable to both indigenes and strangers and even integrates those non indigenes who are of good character and participate in their Community development efforts,but will not tolerate any one whose character is questionable.
Chief Nweke who is also the Chief Executive Officer of Blue Shield Security Services in Awka admonished landlords in the area to always be mindful of the kind of characters and people they rent their apartments to and if possible profile their tenants to ensure they were neither cultists nor gun men unleashing mayhem on society.
He enjoined parents especially mother’s to always keep tab on their children,the kind of friends they keep and what they do for a living in much the same way that they should make teaching their children the positive values of Igbo culture and traditions a priority.
He there after for pannounced a N10 Million bounty for anyone with useful information on the people who committed the twin murders at Nibo and Ifite Awka for possible police arrest and prosecution.
He said information which he promised would be treated with utmost confidentiality could either be rooted through his security outfit or directly to the police command headquarters in Awka.
The money he said was his community’s own support towards unraveling the mystery behind the killings.
He also announced a donation of N100 Million from the Ezinano Community for the empowerment of women in the 20 villages that make up area.
The idea he said was to help them engage in productive ventures with a view to helping feed their families and contribute to the development of the community.
