The Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno has announced a new minimum wage of N80,000 for all state government employees.

This announcement, made public in a press statement signed by the state Commissioner for Information, Comrade Ini Ememobong in Uyo on Wednesday comes as part of the government’s commitment to improving the welfare of its workforce and ensuring better living standards for workers in the state.

The wage increase, which represents a significant boost from the previous minimum wage, is aimed at alleviating economic pressure on public servants amid rising costs of living.

To ensure the effective implementation of the new wage structure, the governor has constituted a high-level implementation committee. The committee, chaired by the Head of the Civil Service, is tasked with delivering a comprehensive report within one month on how the new minimum wage will be executed across all state government departments.

Members of the committee include key figures in the state’s civil service and labor sectors, such as the Chairperson of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Akwa Ibom, the State Chairman of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), and the State President of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE). Others include permanent secretaries from various ministries and commissions.
