1,000 women empowered with various skills acquisition in Delta

No fewer than 1,000 women have been empowered with various skills acquisitions in Delta State in order to cushion the effects of economic hardship.

The project was facilitated by a non-governmental organisation, HACEY, in collaboration with Access Corporation.

The women were trained in different skills such as detergent/soap making, perfume making, air freshener making, and tailoring, among others, on Monday at the Bethel Anglican ACM Hall, Uda Layout Asaba.

Speaking during the training, the Programme Team Lead of HACEY, Mr Bamidele Oyewumi, said the programme was designed to enhance the financial capacity of women and girls in rural communities in Delta State.

He said, “HACEY is a non-governmental organisation focusing on how to improve the health and productivity of women in the community.

“We are working with all stakeholders to ensure their healthy lives and financial stability. That is what we called the ‘Sustainable Empowerment Programme.’

“Part of the things we are doing is building their skills for them to make money and manage their funds.

“This project is supported by Access Corporation as our partner, and today we are empowering 1000 women to start a small-scale business.”

He said the training was to equip beneficiaries with essential tools for digital marketing, enabling them to expand their businesses in today’s digital economy.

In her remarks, the representatives of Access Corporation, led by Mrs. Milicent Ugwuah, said that the empowerment of women was key to the nation’s building.

She said, “Today, Access Corporation, in collaboration with HACEY, is empowering women because we know that women are pillars of society.

“We have taught them ways of getting money and how to manage the funds to support their family. We are looking at people in rural communities who do not have means of catering for themselves.

“For this location, we selected 1000 women and girls; this is an empowerment skills program, where they were trained in five different skills.”

She noted that the gesture was a way of giving back to society as part of their corporate social responsibility, hence training 1000 women and girls in various skills to enable them to have businesses that will turn out the money in their pockets.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mrs Amaka Odemene thanked the sponsor of the programme, especially in this critical hardship facing the people.

“We are working with all stakeholders to ensure their healthy lives and financial stability. That is what we called the ‘Sustainable Empowerment Programme.”

She said the skills learnt would go a long way to ameliorate their sufferings in the community.
