Yusuf Enjoins Tinubu, Judiciary To Be Neutral In Council Poll

KANO – Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf on Saturday called on the Federal government to remain neutral in the process and conduct of local government election in Kano.

Governor Yusuf who spoke in Kano shortly after casting ballot at his Chiranci ward in Gwale local government area of the metropolis, advised the Judiciary to jettison partisanship in Kano electoral process.

The Governor who extolled the role of the Nigerian Judiciary in entrenching the rule of law, however expressed worry that the Federal high court sitting in the state are being used to subvert the will of people in the state.

Yusuf said “We have respect for the Nigerian Judiciary because they are the last hope of the common man. But when the Judiciary now submitted itself to be used and being partisan, there will not be peace in the land. I want to urged the Judiciary not to be used to subvert public interest in Kano. “

He said “Let me emphasize again here that we would not be subjected to any intimidation from the Judiciary and from any quarter. We are peaceful and peace loving people in Kano. But we would not be allowed to be pushed to the wall”.

Earlier, the Chairman of Association of State Independent Electoral Commission in Nigeria, who doubles as Chairman of Sokoto state Independent Electoral Commission, Alh. Aliyu Suleiman expressed satisfaction on the conduct of the council poll.

Alh. Suleiman said the conduct nas observed was peaceful and electoral turned out en masse to exercise their franchise.

In the meantime, voting across the 484 political wards ended peacefully, as collation of results have started in earnest.

Eligible voters across the 44 local government area of the state have in their thousands trooped to designated polling centre to cast their votes.

Exit poll indicate that the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) are coasting home to victory in a one sided contest.

Major opposition party in the state, the All Progressives Congress (APC), the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and the People’s Redemption Party (PRP) withdrew from the race at the last hours.
