ABUJA – The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Barr. Nyesom Wike, has reiterated the FCT Administration’s commitment to enhancing security and connectivity in rural communities through the installation of streetlights in ongoing road projects.
Speaking in Abuja on Wednesday during the inauguration of the 10.5-kilometer Kabusa to Ketti access road project, Wike emphasized that the inclusion of streetlights in rural road construction would bolster security and improve the quality of life for residents.
“For the first time, you can see we are providing roads and, at the same time, providing streetlights,” Wike said. He highlighted the success of similar initiatives in Kuje township, where streetlights have significantly enhanced nighttime security.
The minister stressed the administration’s focus on reducing the suffering of rural dwellers, creating a secure environment for farming, and addressing insecurity in the territory.
The Kabusa to Ketti road, a 10.5-kilometer project, will connect several communities, offering improved access and security. According to Mr. Richard Dauda, Acting Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), the project, awarded to Tech Oil Global Concept, is expected to be completed within six months.
Mr. Christopher Maikalangu, Chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), lauded the road project as a transformative intervention. He noted that the poor state of the road had previously made it a hotspot for criminal activities, including kidnappings and banditry.
“This is where our royal father was kidnapped and killed because the road was very difficult for security operatives to access,” Maikalangu lamented. He expressed optimism that the new road would reduce such risks and revitalize socio-economic activities in the area.
Maikalangu commended Wike for prioritizing infrastructure development in AMAC, citing completed projects such as the Saburi, Karimo to Dei-Dei, and Life Camp roads in Zone C. He also praised the inauguration of other projects, including the Kabusa to Takushara road.
Describing Wike as a “game changer and transformer,” Maikalangu invited the minister to commission additional completed projects in the area council.
He further appealed for similar interventions in other underserved communities, including Nyanya, Karu, Orozo, and Karshi in Zone A.
The Kabusa to Ketti road project underscores the FCT Administration’s commitment to inclusive development, ensuring that rural communities benefit from critical infrastructure upgrades. By prioritizing security and connectivity, the administration is paving the way for sustained growth and prosperity across the territory.
