Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has dismissed criticism of his administration, asserting that his focus remains on delivering tangible results.
On Friday, November 22, after inspecting five ongoing projects in Abuja, including three roads, a flyover bridge, and the Judges Quarters, Wike described his detractors as idle partisans.
“Who are those criticizing? I am not bothered,” Wike said. “Once you have presidential approval and backing from the National Assembly, what is my business with those who are criticising? These are people who, even when given the opportunity, cannot do anything.”
He argued that critics would complain regardless of the situation, stating, “If you had not done it, they are still the ones who would complain that the environment within which our Judges and Justices are working is not conducive. Now you are trying to provide a better environment, they will say it’s for another reason.”
Wike emphasized his commitment to his mandate, saying he is unshaken by what he described as “non-existent” criticisms.
Beyond addressing criticism, the minister highlighted the ongoing projects’ job-creation benefits, linking them to President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
“Creation of employment is one of the priority areas of this administration,” he noted. “It’s not necessarily about government jobs but creating opportunities where youths can find work for their own living.”
Wike expressed satisfaction with the number of youths engaged in the projects, saying, “Look at all the roads and the number of people employed. Nothing can make you more comfortable than seeing youths engaged. You can imagine what these youths would be doing if these jobs were not there.”
The FCT minister reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to continue addressing employment and development challenges in the capital.
