US Offers Support To 67,000 Flood Victims In Borno

The United States has offered support to over 67,000 victims of the recent devastating floods that swept through Maiduguri and other parts of Borno State.

The massive flood which occurred about a fortnight ago, resulted in loss of lives, destruction of property, and the displacement of many families.

In response to the flood disaster, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), on behalf of the US government, is providing assistance to the affected victims through UN agencies and implementing partners.

A statement from US Mission in Abuja, the USAID, through the World Food Programme (WFP), is providing hot meal rations in four camps hosting internally displaced persons and has reached more than 67,000 individuals in the past few days.

The WFP is also providing emergency nutrition assistance to pregnant and lactating women, including children under five years old.

Similarly, the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) is using an initial $3 million in USAID funding to address flood needs across the country.

In order to further address urgent needs, USAID is supporting the United Nations Humanitarian Air Service (UNHAS) in conducting food airlifts to inaccessible areas in Borno and Maiduguri city.
