Nigerian writer and director, Teniola Zara King has shared an interesting story about how she guessed the email of an Emmy-winning director and ended up as a member of the crew of the 2023 Netflix action thriller drama, ‘Who Is Erin Carter?’
In an episode of the Living Boldly podcast series, the graduate of London Film School said that one of the boldest things she has ever done was to email one of the biggest executive producers in the UK.
According to her, having guessed his email, she said to him that she wanted to direct one of his shows which is one of the biggest shows in the world.
“I’m talking of an Emmy award winner and I had to guess the email. He responded and he was like to direct you need quite a few episodes on your name. But in the meantime, he then copied in two of his other producers and said they’ll be in touch.
“Long story short a few months later. I was in Barcelona. I was shadow-directing one of the biggest shows on Netflix Called ‘Who Is Erin Carter’ and that was it. All from an email. So guess what? Go for what you want. Be bold about it and as always, I challenge you to live boldly,” she said.
‘Who Is Erin Carter’ is a seven-part action crime thriller series directed by Ashley Way, Savina Dellicour, and Bill Eagles.
Teniola’s career in TV and film started when she was employed as a Production Assistant on the late-night talk show, ‘Highlites With IK’, where she was promoted to Line Producer after only four months. After a year in this role, she became the Series Producer for M-Net TV Drama Series, ‘Head Over Heels’.
