MINNA – The Niger State House of Assembly (NSHA) has held public hearing on a private bill to push for the establishment the Niger State Sports Commission (NSSC).
The hearing is part of efforts to restructure the state’s ailing Sports sector with a view to making it more responsive to the yearnings and aspirations of Nigerlites including ending joblessness amongst youths who are eager to engage in sports for survival.
Speaking during the hearing which took place at the Hon. Usman Jikantoro House of Assembly complex, Speaker Niger State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Barr Abdulmalik Mohammed Sarkin-Daji, said 10th Assembly is committed to signing into law bills that have direct positive impact on state citizenry.
The Speaker, represented by Hon. Arc. Abubakar Suleiman representing Bosso Constituency expressed commitments of members to collaborate with relevant stakeholders to create effective legislation for the benefits of the government and people of the state.
The Speaker who commended the Chairman and members of the House Standing Committee on Sports Development for organizing the public hearing expressed appreciation to the stakeholders for their valuable contributions and discussions towards ensuring the successful sailing through of the bill.
The Chairman of the House Standing Committee on Sports Development, Hon. Zakari Ndagi Kinbokun, representing Mokwa Constituency had earlier highlighted the importance of input from stakeholder in facilitating the bill’s passage.
The state Commissioner for Sports Development, Hon. Ibrahim Yahaya Gulbin-Boka, who led the Permanent Secretary, Nuhu Garba Ngaski and other top management staff of the ministry to the public hearing had earlier noted with gratitude the timeliness of the bill for the advancement sports in Niger state.
Emphasizing that sports serve as a unifying factor for peaceful development, the Commissioner pledged total support and commitments to the establishment of laws for the betterment of the state.
Stakeholders present at the public hearing, including representatives from the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), and the Ministry of Justice amongst others made their inputs for a road map that will restore Niger to its top position in sports growth and development.
