Sokoto flooding: Gov Aliyu seeks FG’s support for victims

Gov Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto State has appealed to the Federal Government to assist flood victims in Tangaza and Illela, the two most affected local government areas in the state.

The governor made the plea during his visit to these areas to assess the level of destruction caused by the devastating floods.

He stated that this year’s flooding has affected 22 local government areas, with Tangaza and Illela being the worst hit by this disaster.

He lamented, “The destruction caused by this flood is so severe that it has destroyed hundreds of houses and farmlands, rendering many people homeless.”

“It has also devastated several farmlands, resulting in food shortages in the affected communities.”

“I’m appealing to our father, a President with a listening ear, to assist these two LGAs so they can find relief from the terrible situation in which they find themselves,” he urged.

Gov. Aliyu added that this call became imperative considering the immense economic importance of these two LGAs, as they are among those bordering the Niger Republic.

“These communities may face severe food shortages and dire socioeconomic crises because of the magnitude of this flooding,” Gov. Aliyu passionately stated.

The governor also called on residents in the two LGAs to ensure that they regularly clear their drainage systems and avoid indiscriminate dumping of refuse.

He further urged them to view the disaster as an avoidable act ordained by God and prayed to Almighty Allah to prevent the recurrence of such devastating disasters in the future.
