Shettima, Alia, Other FG Delegation To Attend 79th UN General Assembly

MAKURDI – Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia flew out of the country on Friday, to attend the 79th General Assembly of the United Nations (UN) slated to hold in New York, from Saturday, 21st September 2024 to Sunday, 28th September 2024.

The Governor who is on the delegation led by the Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima, and is expected to be out of the country for one week, would use the occasion to hold bilateral meetings that would be beneficial to the people of the state.

According to a statement signed by Sir Kula Tersoo, Chief Press Secretary (CPS), to the Governor, and made available to newsmen in Makurdi on Friday, some of the meetings which would be held on the sideline of the General Assembly, would focus on subnational government strategies for accelerating sustainable development through technology and partnerships.

Kula said, “Governor Hyacinth Alia earlier today departed from Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, for New York to attend the Seventy-Ninth United Nations General Assembly.

“The Governor is part of the delegation selected by President Bola Tinubu to accompany him to the meeting.

“The General Assembly is expected to commence tomorrow, Saturday, 21st September 2024 to Sunday, 28th September 2024. This assembly is an opportunity for world leaders to come together to discuss progress on interconnected global challenges.

“President Tinubu has also delegated Vice President Senator Kashim Shettima to lead the Nigerian delegation on his behalf at this significant gathering of world leaders.

“While in the United States, Governor Alia will attend various important sideline events and hold bilateral meetings that will be immensely beneficial to Benue State.

“These high-level sessions will focus on subnational government strategies for accelerating sustainable development through technology and partnerships,” the CPS stated.
