Saudi Arabia To Host Four TV Channels On Nigeria’s Satellite

There are indications that the Embassy, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has initiated plans to patronise Nigeria’s NIGCOMSAT to host four TV Channels on NigComSat-1R.

This was disclosed recently when the Saudi Arabian Head of Media, Mohammed Alsahabi and other officials visited the NIGCOMSAT Ground Control Station, located in Abuja.

Alsahabi said the Saudi Arabian Embassy has discovered that the NIGCOMSAT has a state-of-the-art satellite infrastructure to deliver high-quality programming, and wants to take advantage of it.

He noted that the Embassy’s decision to patronise Nigeria’s satellite was based on the fact that there is a need to promote cultural exchange and provide valuable information to viewers.

He said, “There is a significant historical connection between the people of Saudi Arabia and Nigeria, culturally, religiously, and more. Unfortunately, Saudi Arabia is primarily known for Hajj”.

Earlier in her remarks, the Managing Director of NIGCOMSAT, Jane Egerton-Idehen, who was represented by the Executive Director of Technical Services, Engr. Abiodun Attah, while receiving the team, said the government of Nigeria was open to positive initiatives that will foster partnerships and enhance effective communication.

She stated, “Hosting international channels on NigComSat-1R aligns with NIGCOMSAT’s vision of becoming a leading satellite service provider in the region.

“ The collaboration is anticipated to not only benefit the broadcasting landscape but also contribute to the economic growth of the media sector in Nigeria. By utilising NigComSat-1R, the Saudi Arabian channels will gain access to a robust platform that ensures reliable transmission and broad coverage.

“ Both parties agreed to continue discussions to finalise the technical and operational aspects of the partnership, with the aim of launching the channels in the near future”.
