The Public Accounts Committee of the House of Representatives Public has demanded detailed account of an alleged abandoned road project worth about N1.4 billion in Kaduna State from the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Works.
The committee on Thursday gave the ministry five days to appear before it and answer questions on the project.
Chairman of the committee, Bamidele Salam, announced the directive after the permanent secretary failed to respond to two previous invitations, as the committee was looking into cases of non-compliance with financial regulations, the Public Procurement Act, and assessment of value for money projects.
The road construction contract, which reportedly spans 115 kilometer and awarded to Jam-Jam Dynamic Platform Ltd on October 5, 2022, was expected to be completed within 12 months.
The committee expressed displeasure with attitude of the permanent secretary whom it said has formed the habit of treating it with levity.
Salam emphasised that the committee requires an explanation for the full payment made to Jam-Jam Dynamic Platform Limited in spite of absence of evidence of the project execution.
