Police Neutralize Armed Robber, Arrest Six Cable Vandals, Others

MINNA – The police in Niger state said it has neutralized suspected armed robber, and also arrested six armoured cable vandals as part of renewed efforts to rid the state of crime and criminalities.

The police received distress call that some suspected armed robbers were attacking residents around Toll-gate area of Boyi, in Gurara Local Government Area and occupants dispossessed of their valuables.

Police tactical team stationed at Boyi outstation attached to Gawu-Babangida Div mobilised to the scene and in the ensued gun duel, one of the gang members was killed while others escaped with gun shot injuries, a statement signed by Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Wasiu A. Abiodun, for the Commissioner of Police
Niger State Command said.

The police, according to the statement overwhelmed the armed robbers during fierce gun battle and one of them was gunned down in the process, one Ak-47 rifle, one automatic pump action rifle and two phones were recovered.

Two phones belonging to the victims among other valuables recovered, while others escaped from the scene with believed gunshot injuries. Investigation into the robbery incident is ongoing and effort to arrest the fleeing members of the gang is intensified.

Also, police operatives attached to Kpakungu Division with vigilante groups on routine patrol along Keteren-Gwari area of Minna intercepted the following suspects; Umar Mustapha, Idris Abdullahi, Mahmud Mohammed, Musa Zakari, Aliyu Musa and Salihu Musa all between 25 and 60 years of Alagbado area for vandalism and related offenses.

The suspects were found to have conspired, vandalized and stole street lights armoured cables along Keteren-Gwari road, Minna.

During interrogations, the suspects according to the statement confessed to the crime and some of the cables were recovered from them.
