The North East Zone of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has officially endorsed Ambassador Umar Iliya Damagum as the party’s Acting National Chairman.

This endorsement was announced by Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, who spoke on behalf of the PDP chapters in Adamawa, Taraba, Gombe, Borno, and Yobe states.

In a statement released by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Fintiri expressed confidence in Damagum’s leadership since he assumed office.

He emphasized that, according to a Federal High Court restraining order in Abuja, Damagum should remain in office to complete the tenure of former National Chairman, Dr. Iyorchia Ayu, unless the court rules otherwise.

Governor Fintiri commended Damagum for restoring public confidence in the PDP and urged party members to respect the court’s decision in the interest of both the party and Nigeria’s democratic process.

Fintiri also highlighted the PDP’s remarkable performance in the North East during the 2023 elections, which he described as unprecedented. He argued that the region deserved the position of National Chairman more than any other section in the North.

The Federal High Court in Abuja had previously issued a restraining order, preventing the PDP’s National Working Committee, Board of Trustees, National Executive Committee, and affiliates from replacing, nominating, or appointing any chairman other than Ambassador Damagum.

The court’s decision ensures that Damagum remains in his role while legal proceedings continue.
