PDP committee reconciles NWC members, harps on unity

The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Reconciliation Committee, Olagunsoye Oyinlola, said on Tuesday the committee has reconciled members of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC).

Oyinlola stated this to journalists after the committee met with the NWC on Tuesday in Abuja.

He described the meeting as fruitful and stressed that reconciliation was necessary for the progress of the party

Oyinlola said: “The outcome of today’s meeting is that, to the glory of God, we have been able to resolve the differences that have been causing our party some headache within the NWC.

“We thank God that we have been able to open up to ourselves and resolve to move on as a united NWC, which is what we needed for the progress of our party, the PDP.”

When asked if the PDP National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting would still be held on Thursday, the ex-Osun State governor said that was not part of the committee’s discussion.

The crisis in Nigeria’s biggest opposition party escalated on October 11 following the emergence of two factions with each issuing separate statements suspending key officers of the party.

The PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, in a statement, announced the suspension of the party’s acting National Chairman, Damagum, and National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu, for alleged anti-party activities.

He later announced Alhaji Yayari Mohammed as the party’s new acting National Chairman.

Another faction of the NWC loyal to Damagum thereafter announced the suspension of the National Legal Adviser, Kamaldeen Ajibade, and Ologunagba for alleged disloyalty to the party.
