MAKURDI: Some officials and members of the Benue State chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), have urged members of the PDP in the state to discountenance reports making the rounds that they official paid a courtesy call on Dr. Mathias Byuan, Executive Director, Housing Finance and Accounts in the Federal Housing Authority (FHA) in Abuja.

The four members of the party, among them two officials; the Benue PDP State Deputy Chairman, Rt. Hon Azua Avough Ashongo and Hon. Tim Nyor, the State Publicity Secretary explained that the visit to Dr Mathias Byuan, was a private visit.

In the statement signed by the party officials as well as the immediate past Acting State Chairman of PDP, Chief Isaac Mffo and the immediate past State Publicity Secretary of the party, Chief Bemgba Iortyom pointed out that the allegation “is totally false and should be disregarded.”

They said, the four of them were in Abuja on separate engagements, and in the course of discussion when they met, one of them, who is an in-law to Dr. Byuan, asked them to accompany him to pay a visit to the family, adding that the visit was “wholly private and not in representation of the Benue PDP Exco.”

While they dismissed and described as laughable the reports, the party members insisted that the report was the handy work of mischief makers. They restated that their loyalty to the PDP and to the leader of the party in the state, Chief Samuel Ortom, was beyond questioning.

According to the statement, “We, the undersigned, state that information circulating in the public space that the newly instituted Executive Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Benue State paid a visit to Dr. Mathias Byuan in Abuja earlier today is totally false and should be disregarded.

“The information is the handiwork of members of the party who have become disgruntled following their defeat at the party’s recently concluded elective congresses in the state, and have taken to perpetrating mischief against the party and its officials.

‘We came to Abuja on separate private engagements, and in the course of our interaction this morning, one amongst us who is an in-law to Dr. Byuan, invited us to accompany him on a courtesy visit to the family.

“Our visit to the Executive Director, Housing Finance and Accounts in the Federal Housing Authority (FHA) was wholly private and not in representation of the Benue PDP Exco, as just two among us are officials of the party and were not there to represent it in any capacity.

“It is, therefore, beneath even the basest levels of pettiness and mischief to proceed by the sort of fabrications and embellishments that detractors have deployed about our visit to Dr. Byuan.

“Our loyalty to the PDP and to the Leader of the party in Benue State, His Excellency, Chief Samuel Ortom, is beyond questioning, as such the piece of mischief by our disgruntled compatriots should be dismissed as laughable and not worth the attention of any serious minded person”, they stated.
