The Senate Caucus of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reaffirmed its resilience and commitment to overcoming recent electoral challenges while dismissing concerns about internal divisions and the influence of individual members like FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike.
Speaking after the party’s National Assembly Caucus meeting on Wednesday, Senate Minority Leader and Caucus Leader, Senator Abba Moro, stressed that the PDP’s legacy and strength go beyond the actions of any single individual.
“The PDP is not just about one individual,” Moro stated, addressing claims that Acting National Chairman Umar Damagun’s leadership has weakened the party. “Damagun is the acting chairman, but PDP is about all its members. We are working tirelessly to restore the PDP to its winning ways.”
Moro dismissed fears about members associated with the All Progressives Congress (APC), including Wike, emphasizing that such political alignments are common in democracies and do not define the PDP’s trajectory.
“Anyone working against the PDP today will have to contend with the resilience of PDP members. The PDP is a brand that has always bounced back from challenges,” he said.

The senator highlighted the party’s focus on rebuilding and strategizing for future elections despite recent losses, including gubernatorial contests. “We are intensifying efforts to ensure the party grows stronger and prepares for subsequent elections without distractions,” Moro noted.
Addressing allegations of vote-buying and concerns about the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Moro expressed worry over Nigeria’s democratic process.
Moro emphasized that the PDP remains committed to restructuring and regaining its electoral dominance. “We discussed the affairs of the party, particularly as we approach a critical meeting of the National Executive Council (NEC) to take vital decisions on the state of the PDP,” he added.
When asked about the root causes of the party’s challenges, Moro avoided assigning blame, instead focusing on solutions. “The most important thing is acknowledging that something is not right. We are working to fix it, and we will get it right,” he assured.
The Senate Caucus leader reiterated that the PDP’s setbacks are temporary, and the party is determined to emerge stronger. “Once our electoral laws are strengthened, future election results will not be the same,” he concluded.
