Ogun LG poll: Aspirant seeks disqualification of APC’s candidate for Yewa North

A chairmanship aspirant of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Ogun State, Gbenga Akinwande, has approached the Federal High Court, Abeokuta, seeking an order declaring the selection and nomination of Dr Olusola Akinbode, as the party’s chairmanship candidate of the party for the November,16 local government polls, null and void.

Akinwande in a suit marked FHC/AB/CA/144/24 listed the All Progressive Congress and the Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC), as first first and second defendants.

He asked the court to determine whether the submission of Akinbode as the party’s chairmanship candidate by APC and OGSIEC as first and second defendants respectively, was not in breach of relevant provisions of the Electoral Act and constitution of the APC.

Akinwande in the suit submitted that Akinbode did not participate in any selection and nomination process of the party, and urged the court to give an order for his removal and put his name as the valid candidate for the election.

He argued that the process that led to the emergence Akinbode as the party’s flag bearer in the coming election, did not follow due process, APC guidelines and Electoral Laws

When the case was mentioned on Wednesday, October 16, before Justice Jordan Adeyemi of the Federal High Court 2, Abeokuta, the defendants were absent and they also did not send lawyers to represent them while John Gbenga Apanishile announced appearance as counsel for the plaintiff.
