Prince Dapo Abiodun, the Ogun State Governor has enjoined corps members deployed to the state to join in the implementation of the building a future together agenda of his administration.
Governor Abiodun gave the charge at the Sagamu International Stadium Permanent Orientation Camp of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) at the formal swearing-in ceremony of 2024 Batch C Stream 1 Corps Members deployed to the state for the mandatory national service.
Governor Abiodun, who was represented by Honourable Wasiu Isiaka, the Commissioner for Sports Development, said
his administration recognised the place of youth as drivers of economic, social, and political development, assuring of increased commitments to creating an enabling environment for core members to explore their full potential and contribute meaningfully to the advancement of the state.
He said, “Ogun State remains a leader in youth development and empowerment, as reflected in the robust job creation, poverty elevation, and food security initiatives.
“These efforts are part of our deliberate strategy to foster prosperity, particularly for our youth, and to ensure the continued progress of our state.”
He urged the corps members to harness that greatness as they take on the challenges and opportunities of the service year, saying creativity and innovation are key drivers of success.
Earlier in her introductory address, Mrs Olayinka Diana Nasamu, the NYSC Ogun State Coordinator congratulated the corps members on the completion of their various academic programmes.
Nasamu informed the corps members that the service year has been carefully planned and divided into four cardinal programmes of Orientation, Primary Assignment, Community Development and Passing Out Parade.
She appealed to the corps members to take every aspect of the orientation course very seriously, particularly the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme, which
aims to equip them with various skills during and after the orientation programme.
She informed the Governor that that the 1,697 corps members, comprising 647 males and 1,050 females, have all been well-behaved since arrival at the camp for the national service.
Appreciating the support of Governor Dapo Abiodun in the scheme of NYSC activities and needs, Nasamu said, “I expressed profound gratitude to His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun, for the numerous supports and attention the NYSC Scheme has consistently received in the State, particularly regarding the prompt attention to our requests and the safety of our Corps Members.
She added, “Your Excellency, we are truly grateful.”
The State Coordinator also lauded the support of collaborating agencies for the prompt release of personnel for programmes and willingness to partner with the scheme.
Highlight of the colourful ceremony includes the symbolic administration of oath on the corps member by Honourable Justice Mosunmola Dipeolu represented by Justice Adetokunbo Jibodu, oath taking by Corps Camp Directors, and the Camp Court officials and pet talks by the representatives of both Hausa and Igbo communities in Sagamu.
The Hausa community represented by Alhaji Inuwa Garba, the Seriki Hausa of Sagamu while Chief Onyendu Michael Uba, the Eze Ndigbo of Sagamu extol peace and progress of Sagamu.
The two, who have both lived in Sagamu for some decades, assured the corps members of peaceful coexistence among the various tribes and residents of the Sagamu and Ogun State in general.
