Obi Cubana Introduces CNG Tricycles To Ease Cost Of Transportation

Following the removal of fuel subsidies in Nigeria, businessman and Chairman of Enviable Transport, Chief Obinna Iyiegbu also known as Obi Cubana, has introduced Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) tricycles to ease the financial burden on drivers and passengers. These new tricycles offer a cheaper and more environmentally friendly alternative to petrol-powered vehicles.

The launch took place at the Enviable Transport showroom in Ikorodu, Lagos, in partnership with Bajaj Auto Nigeria, makers of TVS tricycles. Obi Cubana explained that the goal is to provide affordable and easy transportation in a modern and accessible setting.

“We want to fulfill the needs of the people for easy and convenient transportation. We also want to do this in a world-class environment reason why we took up this unique building here, a structure like this that has all the facilities and functionalities of a modern business such as Enviable Transport, in a decent environment and very accessible from any part of Ikorodu and environ,” he explained.

The Chief Executive Officer of Enviable Transport, Ituma Chukwuemeka noted that the company is also offering flexible payment plans to help drivers afford these tricycles, allowing them to start earning immediately while paying off the vehicle.

Chukwuemeka explained that CNG is five to seven times cheaper than petrol, enabling tricycle operators to significantly reduce daily fuel expenses. “For instance, where N700 is typically spent on fuel for a day, CNG reduces this to as low as N100, making transportation far more affordable for the average commuter,” he said.

Business Head of Bajaj Two Wheelers in Nigeria, Mr Sijesh Radhakrishnan stated that Bajaj holds a significant market share in the Nigerian motorcycle and tricycle sectors, with 65% of motorcycles in Nigeria being Bajaj.

The partnership is focused on the introduction of CNG tricycles, which are expected to revolutionise the transportation sector in Nigeria by offering substantial fuel savings

Bajaj officials noted that their CNG tricycles are dual-fuel, meaning they can run on CNG and petrol, offering drivers flexibility. With fuel savings of up to ₦8,000 daily, drivers can quickly pay off the ₦4 million cost of the tricycle.

As CNG stations grow across Lagos and Nigeria, more drivers are expected to switch to this cheaper, eco-friendly option, helping to ease the financial strain caused by rising fuel prices.
