President Bola Tinubu on Thursday night, stated that his economic reforms would not only benefit Nigeria but also have a positive impact on the entire African continent.
He praised the amicable relations between Nigeria and France, expressing gratitude for French President Emmanuel Macron’s interest in the continent.
Tinubu made the remarks at a state dinner hosted in his honour by the French government at the Palais des Elysée in Paris.
The Nigerian leader expressed confidence that Macron’s goodwill would strengthen bilateral ties, with positive impacts on the entire continent.
He encouraged both Nigerian and French citizens to uphold the cordial relationship shared by their nations.
Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, shared this in a statement on Thursday titled ‘President Tinubu Says Nigeria’s Reform Will Impact Africa, Praises Macron for His Interest in Africa.’
Tinubu explained that Nigeria’s reforms would improve Africa’s economic prospects, saying, “Regarding Nigeria’s economy, as you have said, we have embarked on a strong reform programme, and there is no turning back.
“It is in the interest of the entire continent that we do not continue down the path of the past. We must embrace the future with commitment and optimism, guided by the courage of our founding fathers.”
“President Macron, all your efforts regarding Africa, I promise you shall not be in vain,” he added.
Tinubu expressed his appreciation for Macron’s hospitality during his state visit, saying, “It is a great honour for me to be here. It has been a wonderful day, thanks to the excellent reception you have arranged.”
“Appreciating your knowledge of Nigeria is not enough. Your warmth, commitment, and foresight regarding Africa are truly remarkable,” he said.
Tinubu continued, “You have stirred my excitement and captured my attention as a leader. Thank you.”
“France has gone through a great deal to establish freedom, democracy, and commitment. Your efforts are truly inspiring for us to work together.”
“We have no choice but to build a continent that connects, resonates for its people, and cares about development,” he concluded.
Tinubu thanked Macron and his wife, Brigitte, for the state visit and the warm reception over the three-day visit.
“In addition to the economic opportunities and what France represents for Europe, America, and Africa, there is a promising future where you won’t forget who we are,” Tinubu said.
“You have opened doors for investment for our friends here, and I see figures like Aliko Dangote, Aig Imoukhuede, and Tony Elumelu present today. You recall your friendship with Mike Adenuga. Thank you.”
Tinubu noted that the future holds great promise for even better relations with France, saying, “It is a good time for all of us. I couldn’t be prouder to be President of Nigeria at this challenging time. I am surrounded by people who are truly inspired and determined to change the course of Africa by overcoming the failures of the past, creating a future that our children and grandchildren can embrace and be proud of.”
In his remarks, President Macron acknowledged Nigeria’s leadership in Africa, referring to the country as a ‘big brother’ to the continent.
He praised Nigerians for their resilience and intellect, citing Nobel Laureate Prof. Wole Soyinka and musician Femi Kuti as global examples of Nigerian excellence.
“Nigeria is a formidable country with talented young people. Many Nigerians are exceptional in their chosen careers. You conquered military rule and secured your liberty,” Macron said.
“President Tinubu transformed Lagos’s economy, and now he is on a mission to transform the entire country.”
Macron also noted that French investors have long been active in Nigeria, particularly in oil, gas, construction, and food security, and highlighted emerging opportunities in solid minerals, technology, and the film industry.
“Nigeria and France will continue to lead together, forging a path forward,” Macron concluded.
