Nigeria’s Fate At Stake If Mahmood, INEC Make Mistakes – Odinkalu Warns

LAGOS – Chidi Odinkalu, ex-Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission, has cautioned that Nigeria could face repercussions if Independent Electoral Crime Commission (INEC) tampers with the Edo State governorship election.

Goodluck Jonathan, the former Nigerian President, echoed a similar sentiment on Friday.

He urged INEC and security forces to maintain professionalism and impartiality in carrying out their duties.

Jonathan emphasized the importance of being fair and instilling confidence in all stakeholders through a transparent voting process.

However, in a post on his X handle on Saturday, Odinkalu raised concerns that almost every part of Nigeria connects through Edo.

He cautioned that if INEC mishandles the election, the entire nation could face serious consequences.

Odinkalu emphasized: “If Mahmood Yakubu & @inecnigeria tamper with #EdoDecides2024 as they often do intentionally, the repercussions will be felt nationwide: Edo is a pivotal point in Nigeria’s connectivity… Sadly, the head of #INEC seems indifferent to this fact.”
