October 18, (THEWILL) – Pep Guardiola, Manchester City’s manager, has called for England supporters to back Thomas Tuchel unconditionally as the new England national team manager, regardless of his nationality. The Spaniard’s comments come in response to mixed reactions following the decision of the England Football Association to appoint the German coach.

Tuchel, formerly of Chelsea and Bayern Munich, becomes the first German to lead England and only the third non-English manager in the team’s history. Guardiola addressed the appointment at a press conference, emphasising the importance of an open-minded approach to international football management.

“We do not decide where we are born. Mum and Dad decide that and nine months later we are here. I did not decide to be Catalan, you do not decide to be English,” Guardiola stated. He added, “The federation decided to go for a foreign manager with a great record. My view is I would support him unconditionally.”

The City boss, who had been linked with the England job alongside other candidates such as Newcastle United’s Eddie Howe and former Chelsea manager Graham Potter, dismissed speculation about his own involvement. Guardiola reiterated his commitment to the Etihad while expressing hope to coach a national team in the future.

Meanwhile, City currently occupy second place with 17 points after seven games, level with Arsenal and one point behind leaders Liverpool in the EPL. Guardiola confirmed that midfielder Kevin de Bruyne remains unavailable for their upcoming match against Wolverhampton Wanderers due to a hamstring injury.
