The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Zone-E zonal secretariat on thursday organised the maiden North East Security Summit 2024.
The summit with the theme,”Engaging North East Students Positively in the War against Boko haram Insurgency and Drugs Abuse”, took place in Damaturu, the Yobe state capital.
Speaking at the conference, the Coordinator zone-E, NANs, Baffah Hassan Adam, said the summit was aimed at reminding the students Union leaders from across North East states some of the security challenges bedeviling the region.
He stated that the summit will help the students to avoid and not to avoid political thuggery, drugs abuse and Boko haram terrorism.
“We have invited two speakers that would give us a lecture and at the end of the day we are hoping as students will learn so many things from the speakers that will enable us to maintain peace, unity and order in our region and the country in general.
“With regards to out- of-school children in the region. We have already sent a letter to the North East Development Commission (NEDC) as we want to partner with them on how to bring those youths to be enroll into schools,” he said.
Comrades Baffah further revealed that the summit will also educate the students on the consequences of drugs abuse and other nefarious activities.
