LAGOS – The Federal Government has been enjoined to confirm the appointment of Mr. Joseph Imalighwe as the substantive Rector of the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT), Zaria.
Comrade Abednego Galadima, the President National Association of Aircraft Pilots and Engineers (NAAPE), stated this during the week in an interview with Saturday Independent.
Galadima explained that since the assumption of office on December 13, 2023, Imalighwe had galvanised growth in the institution and enhanced productivity, stressing that his confirmation would propel him to do more for the college.
Imalighwe was appointed as the Acting Rector of NCAT alongside five other Chief Executives (CEs).
Apart from Capt. Chris Najomo, the Acting Director-General Civil Aviation (ADGCA), other four were substantive Chief Executives.
Imalighwe, had replaced Capt. Alkali Modibbo who was removed alongside other five CEs last December.
The Federal Government in its statement had said that Imalighwe would be in acting capacity, pending the appointment of a substantive rector, in accordance with Section 13(2) of the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology Act, 2022.
But, Galadima explained that as an acting rector for the college, Imalighwe had been able to execute some of his vision for the college, stressing that within the last 11 months, he had ensured harmony and insistence on application of standards in the college.
He said: “The rector has done well; he has stabilised the college because as you can see every point in time, you have the right operating environment. So, the fact that there is harmony going on, training is going on and we just finished an audit, which was successful, so, you will know that he is doing well.
“But, the thing is that it is good for him to be confirmed as a substantive rector for NCAT. If you are giving somebody an acting position, sometimes, he is not on his footing. So, to have long term goals, becomes difficult, but in the interim, you can operate.
“He is the right man for the job. He should be made the substantive rector of NCAT, but it is at the prerogative of the government.
